A report cited by mynationalypdates.com which was reported by TheBBCghana.com indicates that a total of 19,346 certificates submitted by the staff of government agencies and departments across the country were sent for verification at the various leading public universities in the country but, only 7,284 were confirmed with as much as 12,001 certificates unverified. According to the payroll report of the Ghana Audit Service, Cape Coast University was not able to verify 2,986 but confirmed only 45 certificates. The University of Education Winneba, although could not verify all the, sent 8,967 certificates it could neither confirm any fake certificates among them. The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, on the other hand, confirmed 2 certificates with 46 unverified whereas the University of Ghana confirmed 16 and 0 fake certificates. The Audit Service's inability to verify the authenticity of the staff certificates has submitted a list of the unverified certificates to the various departments and agencies to liaise with the various awarding institutions for confirmation or otherwise within 3 months. The Ministry of Education had the highest number of unverified certificates number of 11,518 with 53 being fake. The Local Government Service and the Ministry of Health followed with 141 and 101 unverified and 3 and 1 fake certificates respectively. They were followed by the Ministry of Interior, and the Finance Ministry with 56 and 26 unverified certificates respectively whilst the Judicial Service recorded 18 unverified certificates. The Auditor-General has instructed the affected MDAs/MMDAs to enquire further and initiate disciplinary action against the 62 staff whose certificates were declared fake following the preliminary investigation by the service.
