Confirmed COVID-19 cases in India overtakes United Kingdom to become No.4 globally
India has seen a surge in the number of coronavirus cases for the past couple of days with 10,956 new confirmed cases in the last 24hrs pushing India above the United Kingdom to become the 4th worst-hit country in the world. With 297,535 confirmed cases, India has surpassed the UK which on Thursday had recorded 292,860 cases. The alarming rate at which news cases are been recorded, if measures are not put in place to slow the spreading of the virus, India is likely to overtake Russia which had 510,761 confirmed cases as on Thursday, June 11. As of today 12th of June, India's confirmed cases have reached 301,579 with active cases of 149, 767 representing 95% of the confirmed cases, and 8,553 fatalities.
India’s capital Delhi may have more than half a million coronavirus cases by the end of July, according to officials. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in the country’s worst-affected city, Mumbai, has surpassed Wuhan in China, where the virus first appeared. Hospitals in the country are struggling to cope with the number of patients they are getting. Many are dying without getting the treatment they need.
